Being Independent

Graduating and getting out on your own is a difficult step to make.

There are a lot of things that you have to take into perspective to

become independent.  Choices that you make when you get out of

high school, believe it or not are crucial and life altering. Decisions

that you have to make are ones like what you want your career to

be, where you want to live, and a big decision is buying a house. In

making these decisions you have to do a lot of research and things

to be prepared. I definitely believe when students graduate from

college, it puts them in a position where they have to have this

mentality that are they going to have to keep relying on their

parents to support them, or will they find a good job so they can

survive and be independent on their own? A lot of majors that

university offers don’t have graduate programs where students are

guaranteed jobs. Most students who graduate from college are left

out with no jobs and only a degree to rely on which doesn’t get

them too far. According to the article Unemployment Rate For College Grads Is Highest Since 1970

by Paul Davidson USA Today, the jobless rate for Americans with

at least a bachelor's degree rose to 5.1%, the highest since

1970 when records were first kept. Most jobs now days require

your Masters or at least some graduate schooling which is why I

don’t think college is really for everyone. In order to be successful

in this world, you have to have an education yes, but at the same

time a lot of people who do graduate can’t say they accomplished

much because their still not at the point in their life where they

want to be. Being independent comes with responsibilities that you

have to be prepared for not only for now, but in the future as well.

People don’t realize that, but I’m glad my parents taught me at a

young age to focus on what’s important in life which are education

and a great career goal. You can never go wrong with having that

mentality.

Past Life

Ever since I was young, I’ve always had a head full of dreams and
aspirations. My goal in life was to be very successful and not have
to struggle. I had the mentally of a 30 year old, but was only 10
when I started to plan out how I wanted my life to be. Now that
I’m 21 years old, some of my plans have slightly changed. Even
though I want to become a registered nurse and work in the ER or
NICU, I want to live the Hollywood life. I’ve always been the type
of person to be in the spot light. I’m very outgoing and always
have to be the center of attention. It’s so intriguing to me how
famous people live their lives. Thinking about it is nice, but
actually experiencing what they experience is kind of scary as
well. They deal with a lot of nonsense that I don’t see how a
human can endure. Not only do they have to follow a lot of rules,
but they seem like they can’t enjoy their life comfortably. Their
names are always in the tabloids and someone is always talking
about them, but they deal with it. Sometimes I think “Hmm, Steph
can you handle all this if given the opportunity to be in their
shoes”?

Just because I’m at a point in my life where I’m so indecisive,
doesn’t mean I can’t make my goals come true. I think if I really
put my mind to it, I will become famous but if not I will always
settle with my one dream of becoming a nurse. As people live
their life, they don't know what’s going to happen next. I think
people who are famous are very fortunate but they got off the
easy way. Some probably have finished school and received a
degree but the majority of them don’t that’s why I think have a
mindset of having a set career path can never fail because you
have a lot of decisions to decide from.

Struggle

Today when I was on my way to work, I thought about

how fortunate I am to say I have a job. I had my first job when I

was 14 years old, and had a lot independence at such a young age.

To most of my friends at the time, they couldn't believe that at that

age, I was making my own money and not depending on my

parents to pay for things. As I grew up, I realized that money

really isn't everything as much as people make it seem. I know that

when I was growing up, my parents made sure that all of their kids

were taken care of. Many families living out here have

to struggle because of situations that they have to face. Either its

because of drugs, unemployment, or the life styles they were

brought up in. My parents where the type of people who worked

hard for what they wanted. I understand that people

have problems in their life when it comes to supporting their family

but it takes dedication to have a future. It makes me upset when

your aware of living in a society with criminals who steal from each

other or even kill over money because they don't want to get a job

but hey I guess that's "life" huh? I don't think anyone will ever

know the truth behind people and their behavior being so greedy

for money but I do believe that it should be kept under control.

Money, Power, & Control....

When people wake up, I'm pretty sure they have worries as to
what will happen next in this world we live in. Many believe that
the world is going to end, but I live my life with only goals that I
plan on accomplishing. As I was growing up, I never thought that
getting a job would be hard considering the fact that our
government didn't has any problems as they do now. Ever since
the recession happened, its 10 times harder to even be
considered for a job you want. Now days, you must have a resume
that exceeds the expectation to what most companies prefer.
Back in high school, I wasn't too familiar with having a resume
because I never thought it was that much of a big deal in order to
be considered for jobs. If I analyze it, it’s like a cycle; without a
good education, I know I won't be able to have further my career
goals.  Managing my time will always be a priority in my life no
matter what I have to sacrifice to make it happen.
